Problem

A company in Sacramento CA wanted to increase the flow of rain water into the drainage systems. During heavy rainfalls, the streets could get flooded causing accidents and traffic delays

Analysis

CresCAD’s engineering team studied the requirements upon studying of each it was determined that the flooding was happening due to the reduced open area available on the cast iron grates which were installed on the roads.

Solution

CresCAD’s team designed a steel fabricated grate which would withstand the same load. The advantage of the steel grate was that the open area on these grates were much higher (67%) as compared to the cast iron grates (45%). This design improved the water flow by 50% compared to the previous solution.
