Problem
A customer in Finland required a product in a short time span in order to get the order. The traditional approach to developing the product required costly tooling to be made which would take 45 days, after which samples would be made. These samples would then be tested -- if the required criteria were not met, the tooling would have to be modified again costing money and up to 30 days. On re-tooling, the samples would have to be produced again and checked for accuracy. If the customer were to follow this traditional approach, it would lose the order.
Analysis
CresCAD realized that the traditional approach would result in loss of sales for the customer. Hence, CresCAD’s engineers would have to shorten the product design and development life cycle by software aided analysis to determine the ideal design to satisfy the requirements.
Solution
CresCAD used Pro-Engineer to design and analyze the product – this was completed in 7 days and the drawing and the video of the analysis was sent to the customer. On customer approval, the detailed drawings, bill of materials and other documents were sent to the customer in order to proceed with product development. This cut down the costs, as well as the time to develop the product which enabled our customer to get the job.
